Roanoke FireEMS makes high water rescues amid flash flooding

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – Roanoke FireEMS Department crews were dispatched to the south side of Shaffer’s Crossing due to reports of an occupied vehicle disabled in high water, according to officials.

Reports say on Thursday, August 21, Battalion 1 was the first to arrive around 7:40 and requested support from Ladder 7, along with the Swift Water Rescue Team on Boat 6.

According to Roanoke FireEMS, crews successfully extricated all seven occupants and brought them safely to higher ground by 8:05 p.m., and no injuries were reported.

After the rescue was complete, barricades were placed to prevent additional vehicles from entering the dangerous road conditions, with the assistance of the Roanoke Police Department and Public Works…
