SYRACUSE, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) — A former Mid-State Correctional Facility officer learned his fate in United States District Court on Wednesday in a 2023 assault at the prison.
First reported by syracuse.com, Brandon Montanari was sentenced to three years and one month in federal prison by Chief US District Judge Brenda Sannes after pleading guilty to deprivation of rights under the color of law, a felony. Two other correction officers — Rohail Khan and officer trainee Michael Williams — pled guilty to the same charge.
Attorneys for the defense had moved for probation. However, Judge Sannes allegedly said that she did not think Montanari had accepted responsibility for the assault, which she called “disturbing” and “an egregious abuse of power.”…
