Massachusetts Auditor DiZoglio’s Bureau of Special Investigations identifies over $4.8 million in public benefit fraud

BOSTON – Today, State Auditor Diana DiZoglio released the Bureau of Special Investigations quarter four report. The report summarizes BSI’s work and initiatives to help make government work better by investigating fraud, abuse, and illegal acts involving public assistance benefits throughout the Commonwealth.

For quarter four, BSI investigated a total of 1,153 cases and there were overpayment calculations in 143 cases with identified fraud. Further details regarding these 143 cases may be found below.

  • MassHealth/Medicaid $3,812,331
  • Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) $690,138
  • Personal Care Attendant (PCA) $145,638
  • Department of Early Education & Care (EEC) $134,526
  • Transitional Aid to Families with Dependent Children (TAFDC) $23,179
  • Emergency Aid to the Elderly, Disabled, and Children (EAEDC) $8,568
