The Red Clay School District continued the trend of New Castle County districts shifting school tax burdens away from residents, but it did not wipe out one corporation’s major tax break.
Red Clay was authorized to create different school tax rates for its resident and non-resident properties by the state legislature last week, and just like Brandywine and Colonial earlier this week, they shifted taxes so that businesses would pay the same percentage of the district tax bill as last year.
Before the recent property tax reassessment, the first in New Castle County since 1983, residential and farm properties combined to pay 73.9% of the 2024-25 tax bill, a number that after the reassessment ballooned to 82.6%…
