NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The Arkansas Travelers, wearing special black and gold uniforms to honor the Little Rock Nine, secured a walk-off win against the Springfield Cardinals on Thursday night, keeping their playoff hopes alive.
In their debut as “The Nine,” the Travs won 2-1 over the North Division-leading Cardinals. Jared Sundstrom’s walk-off single in the bottom of the 10th inning scored Freuddy Batista and sealed the victory.
Arkansas Travelers honor civil rights legacy at Little Rock Central High
The team will continue to honor the nine students who desegregated Little Rock Central High School in September 1957 throughout the weekend. The honorees are Ernest Green, Minnijean Brown, Elizabeth Eckford, Thelma Mothershed-Wair, Melba Pattillo, Gloria Ray, Terrence Roberts, Jefferson Thomas, and Carlotta Walls.
As part of the tribute, Central High students will be featured in pre-game activities, including performing the national anthem. Proceeds from concession sales will be donated to the school.
