Public cautioned as scammers pose as bank officials to steal debit cards and PINs in Nampa

NAMPA, Idaho (CBS2) — Nampa Police Department detectives are investigating cases in Nampa involving scammers who call community members claiming to be from their bank or credit union. The scammers tell a false story about issues with the victim’s debit card, instruct them to put their debit card in their mailbox, and that a bank team member will be by to pick it up and replace it.

Once they come to your home and pick up the card from your mailbox, the scammer calls back to ensure the problem is being rectified and that they need your PIN to issue a new one with your replacement card they’re preparing. Once they receive that PIN, the scammer uses the card for their shopping spree.
