Oregon man charged in cyberattacks reportedly targeting X, formerly Twitter and government networks

OREGON, USA — An Oregon man has been charged with developing and administrating a massive botnet that conducted large-scale cyberattacks against victims in more than 80 countries since 2021, including reportedly targeting X, formerly known as Twitter, though the office didn’t confirm that it was X, according to the Department of Justice U.S. Attorney’s Office, District of Alaska.

Ethan Foltz, 22, of Eugene, was charged by federal criminal complaint in the District of Alaska on charges related to his alleged administration of the “Rapper Bot” distributed denial-of-service botnet, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.
