Former “Superman” actor Dean Cain recently became an honorary Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer, a move drawing both support and sharp criticism. Cain was sworn in this week after announcing his intentions to join the agency in August.
The actor’s decision has become fodder for late-night comedians, including John Oliver and Bill Maher, who have mocked Cain’s new role. Cain addressed the criticism during an appearance on Fox News from an ICE training camp in Georgia, where he was seen attempting an obstacle course.
In response to a question about the backlash, Cain directly addressed the camera, stating, “I get John Oliver, or Bill Maher, or whomever making fun of me. That’s great.
Go ahead. It’s an easy joke… But what you’re making fun of is me standing up for federal law enforcement and American citizens.”
Cain added that he believes ICE agents are “phenomenal people” and that the agency is often unfairly portrayed.
Maher, on his show Real Time, joked that Cain joined ICE for financial reasons, quipping that the actor “was already living in a van.” Oliver, on Last Week Tonight, took aim at Cain’s acting career, suggesting that ICE’s recruitment of the actor, known for films like “The Dog Who Saved Christmas,” indicates the agency is struggling.
