Fight breaks out before funeral of beloved former corrections officer

CROWN HEIGHTS — EMOTIONS WERE HIGH and a brief fight broke out on the street outside the Bible Faith Ministries Church at 1368 St. John’s Place in Crown Heights Friday morning at roughly 9 a.m., shortly before the start of a bagpipe funeral for a beloved Bedford-Stuyvesant resident and former New York City corrections officer, Omar Akeim Tillman Alston, witnesses told the Brooklyn Eagle. On Thursday, a large crowd carrying blue and white balloons had gathered in Tompkins Park, where Alston was honored with a horse and carriage procession, according to posts on Instagram. Police had no information regarding the incident as of Friday morning.
