Kiawah Conservancy plans to restore 100 acre property off Betsy Kerrison Parkway, bringing new community nature area

JOHNS ISLAND, S.C. (WCBD) – Nearly 100 acres of upland and marshland will become open to the public as the Kiawah Conservancy works to restore an area on Johns Island.

Three adjoining properties were acquired the organization in the past few years, thanks to help of private donations and grants. Some of the funds were partially acquired from the South Carolina Conservation Bank and the Charleston County Greenbelt program. Walking trails are one part of the conservancy’s plans to make it an area for people to enjoy.

“You would be able to see the expanse of the marsh that this property is preserving. So, it’s a really beautiful area. Some of the areas were previously being used for commercial sites, we’re restoring to have more native trees and native plants,” Sean Cannon, restoration and enhancement specialist, said. “We’re really hoping to make this really beautiful and beneficial for the community.”…
