Developers planning to convert a former Kearny industrial site into housing and warehouse space are suing two chemical companies for $15.5 million in cleanup costs for toxic contamination.

Ridge Crossing and related developers filed a federal lawsuit last week in U.S. District Court in Newark accusing two chemical companies of leaving behind toxic contamination at a site in Kearny in Hudson County.

The lawsuit accuses the companies of failing to clean up hazardous chemicals at the former Jeryl Industries Industrial Park at 590 Belleville Turnpike and 680 Schuyler Avenue…
