Variable speed limits are under consideration for Routes 30 and 283 in Manheim Township

LANCASTER, Pa. — Could variable speed limits be on the horizon for two of Lancaster County’s busiest highways?

The idea is one of several being considered by Lancaster County officials in an effort to reduce the number of traffic fatalities and serious injuries on county roadways in the next 25 years.

As part of a traffic safety action plan laid out by the Lancaster County Metropolitan Planning Organization, variable speed limit signs — like those being used on the Schuylkill Expressway in the Philadelphia metropolitan area — would be installed on Route 30 and Route 283 in Manheim Township…
