For the first time since Hurricane Ian almost three years ago, the Sanibel City Council held its regular meeting on August 19, 2025, in MacKenzie Hall (City Hall) on Dunlop Road. During those years, the Council has been meeting at BIG ARTS at some cost.
MacKenzie Hall has all the necessary IT equipment and monitors, and people will still be able to watch meetings live via Facebook.
Vernon MacKenzie was a longtime leader of the Sanibel community before its incorporation as a city in 1974. In that same year, MacKenzie, along with Porter Goss, Zee Butler, Charles LeBuff, and Francis Bailey, was elected to serve on the first Sanibel City Council. MacKenzie served as Vice Mayor.
