Baton Rouge doctor seeks answers after multiple raids at property next to clinic

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — A Baton Rouge doctor whose clinic is on Burbank Drive said his questions continue to go unanswered after a series of law enforcement raids at the next-door property. He said his patients are becoming increasingly concerned about crime and blight going unchecked at the location.

Dr. Byron Jasper founded the Byja Clinic several years ago. He said it is the first Black-owned direct primary care practice in Louisiana, which means his patients pay a monthly fee to receive as much medical attention as they want without health insurance becoming a barrier.

Jasper said he bought the 7170 Burbank Drive property despite seeing what he called a dilapidated complex next door at 7272. He said a man named Brent Honore sold him the building that became his clinic, and Honore still owns the controversial facilities next door…
