A rare “Black Moon” is rising late Friday night. It may not be as dramatic as an eclipse or a meteor shower, but this rare lunar event brings some of the best dark skies for stargazing that you can get.
What is a ‘Black Moon’?
While it’s not an official astronomical term, a “Black Moon” is the name used for the third new moon in a season that has four. It’s a rare event since most seasons only have three new moons.
