Augusta shooting leaves toddler dead, mother wounded as investigators seek answers

A tragic overnight shooting in Augusta that killed a 3-year-old boy and left his mother wounded has taken new turns as authorities released the victims’ identities and confirmed two others were also targeted.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded around 1 a.m. Wednesday to reports of gunfire at 1102 New Savannah Road. When officers arrived, they discovered 40-year-old Cherrelle Murray and her son, 3-year-old Bryson Murray, suffering from gunshot wounds.

Both victims were rushed to Wellstar MCG Health. Despite emergency treatment, Bryson was pronounced dead at 2:20 a.m. by Dr. Robyn Hatley. An autopsy has been scheduled. Officials have not disclosed Cherrelle Murray’s current condition. The case is now in the hands of the Criminal Investigation Division as detectives work to determine what led to the deadly attack…
