Gwinnett County Public Schools will spend an additional $1.5 million to put more unarmed security guards in schools, but not everyone on the county’s school board is happy about it.
Board members were asked to increase the amount of money it is spending on school safety officers. The district is already putting these unarmed officers — which are different from school resource officers — in elementary schools, but the additional spending will add them in middle and high schools as well to operate weapons detection devices.
