The family of a deceased 26-year-old Ocala man who was killed while taking photos at a DUI accident scene for his employer in 2023 has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the Ocala Police Department, claiming responding officers did not secure the scene appropriately and, as a result, allowed a driver to fatally speed through the scene.
Shaquita Thompson filed the lawsuit on behalf of her late son, James Alexander Thompson, Jr., against the city of Ocala, Ocala Police Department, Dejanelle Estrill-Mouzoune, and the estate of Kristopher Winningham in the Fifth Judicial Circuit Court of Marion County on Wednesday, August 20.
