CANYON, Texas (KVII) — Nearly two years after lawmakers mandated security changes following the Uvalde school shooting, Canyon Independent School District (Canyon ISD) has made significant progress in enhancing school safety.
Superintendent Darryl Flusche highlighted several improvements, including the addition of five school resource officers, the initiation of the Guardians Program, and the installation of silent panic buttons, locking doors on each classroom, and security fencing at some campuses.
“I’m confident with the steps we’ve taken; where we need fencing, we’ve done that,” Flusche said. “But more importantly, are we keeping access to external people from coming into the building and being in proximity to our kids? And those things we’re working to put in place and feel very good about with the locked doors.”…
