HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) – A cold front already situated from North Central to Western Nebraska will be pushing slowly southeastward through the day today. This will be the focal point for the beginning of the cool-down to come in the days ahead. Most of the areas will be ahead of the front for a long enough period to warm up into the upper 80s and low to mid 90s. The hottest temperatures will be in North Central Kansas and far Southwest Nebraska. Locations near Lincoln and the Tri-Cities will get up to around 90°. The front will pass through the North Platte area early enough that the high won’t be any higher than the mid 80s. Farther to the north, highs will mostly be in the upper 70s and lower 80s. With the cold front passing through, there will be increasing clouds. There will also be a few showers and isolated thunderstorms near the front. Most will remain dry until later this afternoon or tonight. By the end of the afternoon, the cold front will be aligned from East Central Nebraska to the southwest corner of Nebraska. Into the early to mid evening, there will continue to be some isolated showers and thunderstorms. But later in the evening and overnight, some stronger storms may fire up behind the cold front. Some isolated severe storms will be possible with wind gusts to around 60 mph and hail up to around an inch in diameter. These should weaken as we get toward tomorrow morning. The best chance for showers and thunderstorms will be across Southern and Western Nebraska and Northern Kansas. Look for lows tomorrow morning from the mid 50s north to the upper 60s southeast.
Saturday brings the cooler air to everybody, but that will just be the beginning. There may be some lingering showers and isolated thunderstorms, mainly in the morning for southern and western areas. Meanwhile, sunshine will build in from the north northeast as the day goes on. High temperatures look to be in the mid to upper 70s and lower 80s. Winds may be slightly breezy out of the north at 5 to 15 mph. A few showers and isolated thunderstorms may continue Saturday night into early Sunday morning, especially over western and southwestern parts of the area. Some may spread east Sunday morning, but the farther east and northeast you go, the lower your chance of rain will be. With more clouds around and even cooler air building in from the north, highs will mostly be in the low to mid 70s on Sunday…
