Reno Nevada Weather Alert: Flash Flood Risk for Burn Scar Areas Through 10 p.m. Saturday

Reno, Nev. – A Flood Watch is in effect across western Nevada and eastern California through 10 p.m. Saturday, with flash flooding possible in areas recently scarred by wildfire and low-lying valleys.

According to the National Weather Service in Reno, an influx of monsoonal moisture could trigger heavy rainfall beginning as early as noon. The heaviest impacts are expected across Mono County and the Greater Reno-Carson-Minden area, as well as Mineral and Southern Lyon counties. The Davis, Conner, and Tamarack burn scars are especially vulnerable to flash flooding and debris flows.

Cities including Sparks, Gardnerville, Hawthorne, and Mammoth Lakes could see rapidly rising creeks, impassable roads, and sudden storm runoff this afternoon.
