AKRON, Ohio — The Summit County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents of scammers impersonating law enforcement.
The Summit County Sheriff’s Office said it’s a trend going around right now. Scammers will use the real names of sheriff’s office employees just to sound more convincing and call from the same number as the sheriff’s office — otherwise known as “spoofing.”
The scammers tell the victim that they haven’t paid a fine or ticket, or that they missed jury duty. They may use other lies, such as a loved one being arrested or a warrant for the victim’s arrest, the sheriff’s office warned…
