An elderly Georgia man was found bleeding on a sidewalk after a stranger allegedly assaulted him in his own home, police said.
The Cobb County Police Department said officers responded Wednesday to the 3000 block of Sandy Plains Road following multiple 911 callers reporting a person had possibly been hit by a vehicle. They arrived to find a 77-year-old man on the sidewalk bleeding from a head wound, but learned he had been assaulted, not struck by a car.
Police said that during the early stages of the investigation, “false reports circulated on social media claiming a shooting had occurred, spreading misinformation and fear.”…
