$96M in additional FEMA funds approved for Helene recovery, road repair costs

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — Nearly a year after Helene devastated Western North Carolina, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has approved another $96 million to support recovery projects across the state.

The funds, announced in an Aug. 22 news release, cover road repairs, infrastructure restoration, debris removal and other emergency work to protect life and property.

Of the $96 million, FEMA said a $65.2 million grant will go to the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) for road repairs in Buncombe, McDowell, Mitchell, Wilkes, and Yancey counties…
