Armuchee’s Avery encouraged by competitiveness in loss to Ridgeland

The Aaron Avery era at Armuchee began with a 38-20 home loss Friday night to Ridgeland, but the first-year coach said his team’s “scrappy” effort gives him optimism for the future of his program.

“I’m excited because our guys competed their butts off every snap,” he said. “They had unbelievable effort. The things that we talk about, the things we want our culture to be built upon, I saw those things tonight. … I don’t think there’s a person here that would say those things didn’t show up.”

Running back Devyn Davis was an easy example of someone that displayed the intangibles — effort and resilience — that impressed Avery. The senior ran for 189 yards of 26 carries (7.2 average) and two touchdowns and only got better as the game went on…
