Man dies while jailed at Union County Detention Center

UNION COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A 61-year-old man has died while incarcerated at the Union County Detention Center, the Sheriff’s Office confirms.

Just before 4 a.m. on Saturday, August 23, an inmate, 61-year-old Gregory Faircloth, was being examined and treated by medical staff in the medical wing when he became unresponsive. Life-saving measures were given.

Faircloth was taken to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Officials say he has been in custody since Tuesday, August 12, but has been in the medical unit due to several pre-existing conditions.
