Assistant principal hailed as hero for saving longtime bus driver amid budget woes

KERNERSVILLE, N.C. — Quick action taken by a Winston-Salem Forsyth County assistant principal likely saved the life of a longtime bus driver amid the district’s budget shortfall.

Jerry Priddy has been driving a Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools bus for over 30 years, but Thursday morning, he came closer than ever to not finishing his route. The veteran driver was stung on the neck by a yellow jacket, triggering a severe allergic reaction.

“I could have died,” Priddy said. “People die of anaphylactic shock all the time. I’m one of the lucky ones.”…
