Garden Grove Bans Alcohol Ads Near Schools, Playgrounds

The ordinance follows an incident where an alcoholic beverage company painted a mural advertising their product across from a local elementary school. This prompted concerns about the influence of alcohol marketing on young people. According to Voice of OC, studies by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism indicate that exposure to alcohol marketing can lead to increased underage drinking, which is associated with various risks such as accidents, assaults, and long-term alcohol issues.
