KALAMAZOO, MI — Changes are coming to Kalamazoo’s downtown homeless shelter, limiting the number of people who can sleep there for an emergency stay and how long they can stay.
Beginning Oct. 6, Kalamazoo Gospel Ministries will limit its emergency shelter beds to 140 beds — 80 for single men and 60 for single women.
“The key change is that we will no longer be using overflow mattresses on the floor in emergency services,” CEO John Simpson said. “This adjustment is important not only for the safety and wellbeing of our guests and staff, but also for creating an environment where we can provide deeper, more transformative care.”…
