Victor Antonetti Sr. remembered as Latin Music mentor and inspiration

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — The family of Victor Antonetti, Sr, is mourning the patriarch’s passing at the age of 77. Those who knew and are inspired by the beloved cultural leader and Rochester musician say he is a source of joy, unity, and pride.

Antonetti moved to Rochester from Salinas, Puerto Rico, when he was 8 years old in 1948. In 1970, he founded Orquesta Antonetti with other family members. What began as a salsa orchestra expanded to include all genres of Latin music, including merengue, mambó, and jazz.

Just last week, Rochester Mayor Malik Evans presented Antonetti the keys to the city. The mayor praised him for his musical talent and his devotion to Rochester. In addition to numerous loving family members and friends, he leaves behind a rich legacy of music and entertainment. His son Victor Antonetti, Jr., leads the orchestra today and has been featured for his contributions to Rochester and the Hispanic community. Isa Antonetti recently made her Broadway debut in the musical Buena Vista Social Club.
