Former motel transformed into supportive housing in Sacramento

On Thursday, city, county and state officials celebrated the opening of Powell’s Landing located on 25 Howe Avenue, officials said. What was formerly the Rodeway Inn is now 69 studio apartments with services for formerly homeless adults.

“With $3.2 million in HHAP-4 funds I fought to secure, this permanent supportive housing will give unhoused neighbors the mental health care, job training, and stability they need to rebuild their lives,” Mayor Pro Tem Eric Guerra said.

The development was funded by the California Department of Housing and Community Development’s Homekey program, which covered property acquisition and renovation costs, the City of Sacramento said. The City of Sacramento also contributed funding from the state’s Homeless Housing, Assistance, and Prevention Program.

Hope Cooperative, a local nonprofit that provides housing and mental health services, owns and operates Powell’s Landing.
