HONOLULU (KHON2) — The Honolulu Zoo has lost its beloved Doc the Komodo dragon. Doc was recorded to be one of the oldest of the species in the world, passing away at 33-years-old.

Male Komodo dragons have a typical life expectancy of 20 years, making Doc one of a kind. That’s not the only thing that makes him so special.
Doc’s parents were gifted to the National Zoo in Washington, DC by the people of Indonesia. This gift is extremely significant since the Komodo dragon is considered a national treasure in Indonesia.
They were the only Komodo dragons on exhibit in all of the Western Hemisphere at the time. Doc was one of 13 hatched in 1992, the first clutch to be hatched outside of Indonesia…
