Demonstrators Protest Sheriff’s Office Agreement with ICE At Courthouse

Around 130 people gathered at the Loudoun County Courthouse on Saturday evening to protest the ongoing cooperation between Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office.

The demonstration, organized by Indivisible NOVA West, a community activism organization, came in response to the 287(g) agreement signed by LCSO and ICE in April. The agreement directs LCSO deputies at the Adult Detention Center to hold inmates due to be released but have an immigration detainer out for them for an additional 48 hours to give ICE agents time to take them into custody.

Over 90 people released to ICE by LCSO this year have been deported. Dozens more have been taken into custody at the Sterling Immigration Court by ICE agents and officers with the Virginia Department of Corrections who are working with immigration task forces…
