GREENVILLE COUNTY, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – The state of an historic Black cemetery has left some residents and scholars in distress after Greenville County’s efforts to clear debris left the site damaged.
FOX Carolina joined Furman Professor Brandon Inabinet as he walked through Brutontown Cemetery for the first time since the county hired a vendor to clear the land earlier this month.
“What’s really atrocious about this spot—this is where I think a plantation cemetery was,” said Inabinet while standing in a large area of mud. “It was very evident that there were 20 graves here—[they] were completely destroyed.”…
