While snow and Lakeland don’t seem to have a whole lot in common, a local family is ready to share their latest obsession with Lakeland’s downtown

Lakeland couple Caleb and Natalie Leonard plan to open Vampire Penguin, a dessert shop offering shaved snow treats, at 215 E. Pine St. this fall alongside Natalie’s parents, Ken and Keni Parks.

There’s a lot of work to be done to remodel the existing Gent’s Classic Cuts salon into their vision of a cozy, Gothic Victorian-inspired cafe by Oct. 31.

The Vampire Penguin brand was started by two brothers, Paolo and Leo San Luis, in 2013. The brothers created a shaved snow treat by combining elements they liked of different dessert ices, the fine texture of Hawaiian ice, creaminess and richness of Taiwanese ice and the American feel of a snowcone, according to the company’s website…
