Off-duty NYPD officer arrested on Staten Island for DWI and refusing breath test

Staten Island, NY – An off-duty NYPD officer was arrested early Friday morning in Staten Island on drunk driving charges after allegedly refusing to take a breathalyzer test during a traffic stop, police confirmed.

Conwayne Mitchell, 30, was taken into custody at approximately 4:34 a.m. within the 121st Precinct. Mitchell, who serves as a police officer with the New York City Police Department, now faces charges of Driving While Intoxicated (DWI), Driving While Ability Impaired (DWAI), and Refusal to Take a Breath Test.
