WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — The Sedgwick County Zoo has welcomed its fourth and final elephant calf.
The zoo reports that the calf was born on Friday morning to its first-time mother, Zuberi. The mother and baby are doing well so far, according to zoo officials, and are bonding behind the scenes with staff closely monitoring their progress.
The calf has been named Dakari, meaning “one who brings happiness” in Swahili. Dakari’s birth is part of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums African elephant Species Survival Plan. It’s the fourth calf for the zoo this year…
