Winter Wonderlights in Loveland Shuts Down

A holiday display that Northern Colorado had enjoyed for nearly a decade won’t be happening anymore, as Loveland has made the decision to let it go.

Another event in Loveland gets pulled from the yearly calendar. There’s no telling how many people came to Loveland to see the display and enjoy the selected nights of live entertainment that were a part of it. It’s a shame, but sometimes cities have to make hard decisions.

Having grown up in Loveland and currently living in Downtown Loveland, it saddens me that the city won’t be having this event, like they didn’t have a fireworks show in 2024, nor the annual Cherry Celebration. This decision, however, is not related to the City of Loveland’s General Fund shortfall; it was funded by lodging-tax and grants.

What Was Winter Wonderlights in Loveland, Colorado?

Winter Wonderlights, put on by Visit Loveland, was a large outdoor holiday display Chapungu Sculpture Park in Loveland that would run from before Thanksgiving through the New Year.

The Christmas Tree at Winter Wonderlights would hold over 170,00 LED lights that would show a 30-minute light show each night that would loop over three hours. The display also hosted nights of live entertainment, with food and drinks; thousands of people would be entertained at the site, each year.

Why Did Loveland Cancel Winter Wonderlights?

According to the City of Loveland press release on the cancelation, they are shifting away from executing events that attract visitors to focus more on promoting events, while also using funds to bring in a broader amount of visitors to Loveland throughout the whole year…
