ALBANY, N.Y. — New data released by the state indicates a significant decline in gun violence across New York, with Albany experiencing one of the most notable decreases. Shooting incidents in Albany fell from 38 to 18 in the first seven months of this year, while the number of shooting victims dropped from 46 to 26.
Despite these figures, some residents remain doubtful about the accuracy of the data. Lord Wilkerson expressed skepticism, saying, “That’s impossible, that’s literally impossible. You’re always hearing about some type of shooting… there’s always something going on so those numbers are lies for sure, especially after Fourth of July.”
Elected officials, however, stand by the data, attributing the decline to local programs. Mayor Kathy Sheehan said, “I think that the investment that Governor Hochul made in that Crime and Analysis Center is demonstrating huge, huge dividends here in the city of Albany driving down shootings.”…
