Cars in Charleston Caught Driving Through Floodwaters Despite Warnings

CHARLESTON, S.C. — Heavy rains in Charleston on Friday led to widespread flooding across the metro area, and despite repeated warnings, some drivers were caught on camera attempting to navigate through high water.

Footage posted on social media showed vehicles making their way down flooded streets as water spilled onto sidewalks and surged around tires. The National Weather Service reported that 4 to 6 inches of rain fell across the city, producing what it called “dangerous flash flooding.”

NWS Warns Against Driving Through Floods

Officials urged residents to avoid both walking and driving through floodwaters. Meteorologists warn that even shallow water can cause vehicles to stall or be swept away, and flooded roads may hide sinkholes or debris.

Still, drivers were seen pushing through streets despite the hazards. Emergency crews in Charleston said such actions not only endanger motorists but also put first responders at risk if rescues become necessary.
