Managing city growth will likely be the top issue facing Athens’ next city government.

According to U.S. Census data, Athens ranks second in population growth in Alabama, behind Foley. The seat of Limestone County grew by more than 5% last year alone and now has a population of more than 35,000 people.

Polls in Athens will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. in Athens’ municipal election. Monday is the last day to apply for an emergency absentee ballot. Absentee ballots may be hand delivered up until 5 p.m. on Monday…
