Community unveils survivor bench and tree plaques to honor victims of 2023 Dollar General shooting

Nearly two years after a racially-motivated mass shooting took the lives of three people at a Dollar General on Kings Road, the Jacksonville community gathered at Kings Road Memorial Park to honor the victims and survivors of that tragic day.

On Sunday, city leaders, survivors, and families of the victims came together for the third annual memorial ceremony—just days before the August 26 anniversary. The event featured heartfelt tributes and the unveiling of new memorials, including tree plaques and a survivor bench.
