First Alert Weather: Low threat to see isolated flooding Saturday

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – Happy Saturday!

It’s been a partly to mostly cloudy start to the day. Temperatures have warmed into the mid 80s shortly before noon.

Scattered showers are already developing across the northern third of Alabama late this morning. These showers are associated with a weak area of low pressure to our southeast that is producing heavy rainfall and flooding in parts of north and central Georgia. Some of this moisture will continue to spread into Alabama and give us a risk for scattered showers and storms today.

We will likely remain partly to mostly cloudy this afternoon with temperatures climbing into the upper 80s. West Alabama could see temperatures warm near 90°F this afternoon. Winds are forecast to come from the east-northeast at 5 to 10 mph. Our greatest chance to see rain today will likely occur in the afternoon and evening hours. Just remember that when thunder roars, go indoors. Any rain that develops could produce heavy rainfall, gusty winds and lightning. One threat we will have to watch out for is the low chance to see isolated flooding across central Alabama.

If you have any evening plans, we’ll hold on to isolated showers. Most of us will remain partly to mostly cloudy with temperatures cooling into the lower 80s by 7 p.m. Temperatures will likely cool into the lower 70s Sunday morning with a small chance for a stray shower…
