U.S. Marshal shoots suspect during arrest in Worcester, police investigating

WORCESTER, Mass. (WWLP) – Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Worcester District Attorney’s Office are investigating following an officer-involved shooting.

On Friday morning, Massachusetts State Police Detectives assigned to the Middlesex County District Attorney’s Office, members of the Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section (VFAS), and members of the U.S. Marshals Service were executing an arrest warrant in the area of Strathmore Road in Worcester.

Police located the suspect, identified as 23-year-old Chris Betances of Worcester, who tried to escape in a vehicle. Betances reportedly began to drive his car towards the officers, and a Deputy U.S. Marshal shot and wounded the suspect out of concern for the officers’ safety.

Police administered medical aid to Betances, and he was brought to a local hospital to be treated. He is currently in stable condition…
