West Texas Police Officer Arrested on Child Injury Charge

ANDREWS, Texas—An Andrews Police Department officer assigned to the school resource division has been arrested and charged with Injury to a Child, a first-degree felony. The officer was identified as Micah Caleb Smyth, and the incident did not involve a student.

The investigation began on August 21, when the Andrews County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a possible child abuse case within its jurisdiction. After the initial investigation revealed an Andrews Police Department officer was a person of interest, the Sheriff’s Office contacted the Texas Rangers to take over the case. The Andrews Police Department worked with both agencies during the investigation.
