Asked to be HP CEO, he chose Boise instead. LaserJet pioneer Dick Hackborn dies

Richard A. Hackborn of Boise died earlier this month. He was 88.

Hackborn, who went by Dick, was a key figure in the history of Hewlett-Packard, particularly when it comes to the tech giant’s significant history in Boise.

Hackborn started with the Palo Alto firm in 1968 in its HP Labs division as an engineer. In 1977, he took an assignment in Boise, “seeking new challenges,” the New York Times said, and helped launch the company’s printer division here…
