Unauthorized rainbow crosswalk at Gainesville park removed by city workers

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) – City workers removed a spray-painted rainbow crosswalk from a park in Gainesville on Monday morning that was created in an apparent act of vandalism.

Over the weekend, a crosswalk at Albert Massey Park, also known as Westside Park, on Northwest 34th Street, was painted rainbow colors by an unknown person.

Monday morning, TV20 crews watched as city crews worked to remove the painted walkway.

The vandalism comes as Gainesville City commissioners have agreed to the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) demands to remove rainbow coloring from all crosswalks in the state. Cities that fail to follow the order could be stripped of infrastructure funding…
