ST. LOUIS — The blue dumpsters that symbolized St. Louis’ commitment to alleyway recycling will no longer be for recyclables, as the city has officially terminated the program, citing unsustainable costs and high contamination rates that sent much of the material to landfills.
The move makes permanent what was initially described as a “temporary pause” that began after the May 16 tornado to help crews manage debris cleanup.
