Toledo program offers free lawnmowing services done by at-risk young adults

TOLEDO, Ohio — A free lawnmowing program aims to solve two issues in Toledo at once by combating blight through routine lawnmowing for homeowners who may struggle to do it themselves and reducing youth violence through paid work and career development for young adults selected by the city.

According to Goodwill Industries of Northwest Ohio, the “Mowbility Aid” initiative brings together multiple organizations for the effort: Goodwill, the city’s Mayor’s Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement and Mr. Snow Removal and Landscaping. The Greater Toledo Community Foundation will provide funding, too.

The program began this month, Goodwill said in a press release, and serves moderate to low-income older adults and people with disabilities in the Junction, Englewood and Lagrange neighborhoods with free lawnmowing every other week…
