LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – Property tax reform has long been a priority for Nebraska senators and Governor Jim Pillen. Frustrated by what they see as a lack of progress, a new group is taking matters into its own hands.
Advocates for All Nebraskans held a news conference Monday in the Capitol rotunda to outline why they believe reform is necessary and what changes they want to see.
The group is petitioning for a constitutional amendment that would reduce home property valuations for tax purposes by 50%, meaning only half the assessed amount would be taxed. It is also pushing for a state law that would cap property tax levy increases at 3% year over year…
